Mission Statement
DePaul Catholic High School is a co-educational diocesan college preparatory high school whose mission is to foster the spiritual, intellectual, physical and social growth of its students. DePaul Catholic enables all students to deepen their faith by teaching the doctrine and traditions of the Catholic Church; by strengthening their sense of social justice and societal responsibility, and by helping students form a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The school community also develops young men and women from varying backgrounds into skilled, compassionate citizens who respect the dignity of all people and leaders who are willing to meet the challenges of a complex global society.
History
DePaul Catholic High School was founded in 1956 by the Sisters of Charity of Convent Station. While construction ensued on Alps Road in Wayne, the second floor of Holy Spirit Elementary School in Pequannock, was home to DePaul Catholic. The first Director, Rev. Msgr. John P. McHugh supervised the completion of the original one-story building. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place in late fall of 1957 as DePaul Catholic opened its doors to is first 200 students.
The building was one story, had fourteen classrooms, one cafeteria, one gym, and one practice multi-use field in the back the size of a normal football field. Groundbreaking for the "New Wing" began in 1959 and the two-story addition was completed in 1963.
For many years, most renovations were within the walls of DePaul Catholic or on the athletic field, but in 2002 an additional renovation upgraded the facility. Nine additional classrooms and office space were added in what was once the convent. The renovated convent chapel was then embraced as a part of DePaul Catholic High School. In addition, the entire facility added central air conditioning and state of the art technological networking.
Since 2013, DePaul Catholic has expanded/upgraded facilities to include a fitness center, aeorobics room, inovation lab, a school-wide Security System, and a new Admissions and Advancement Suite.
In 2010, DePaul Catholic instituted an 8th Grade Prep Program. Currently, the High School and the Prep, host approximately 470 students from 83 towns and 4 countries. It is this diversity that makes DePaul a vibrant and dynamic educational environment.
