DePaul's Advanced Art Students Share Their Talents

The Memory Project is a youth arts organization that promotes intercultural understanding and kindness between children around the world. Since 2004, 300,000 youth in 55 countries have been involved in this school-based program. The Memory Project was founded by a man named Ben Schumaker. He was a student at the University of Wisconsin at the time, and was passionate about connecting youth through art to help build cultural understanding and international kindness. The first intention of the Memory Project was to provide handmade, heartfelt portraits as special memories to children in orphanages. The intention has expanded to touching the lives of youth around the world facing many types of challenges. Five advanced art students here at DePaul recently participated in this worthwhile project. Kayla Agnoli '23, Daniel Genzale '23, Madeline Karlicki '23, Leah DelPiano '24 and Youngrim Song '24, each created a beautiful portrait of a child from Nigeria. The Memory Project will hand deliver their artwork to the children in Nigeria and send back a video of them receiving their portraits. On the back of each portrait, the art students included a picture of themselves, with their name and a short note to the recipient. Copies of the portraits can be seen on display in the main hallway at DePaul. Participating in this program has been a heart-warming experience for these art students at DePaul. Their art work will surely delight the Nigerian children who receive it!

Congratuations to Malik Carrette

We recently received word from the College Board that Malik Carrette from the Class of 2021 has been awarded a College Board Opportunity Scholarship. Open to all students, these scholarships recognize students for their efforts to plan and prepare for college. The award may be applied to tuition, fees, books and other relevant undergraduate educational expenses at two or four-year institutions. Congratulations, Malik.

Our inaugural group is from our Honors Engineering 2 class. Charged with tackling a real-world problem with STEM, they undertook to provide a safer area for enjoying our local parks and minimize our carbon footprint at the same time. Enjoy the video for details.
